Examples:
You knew I was this way when you married me.
You knew I was this way when you met me.
Explanation:
This is one way of saying: “I don’t care what you think, I’m not changing for you”. Is that what you want to say? You have the right to say that if that’s what you really mean, of course, but if it’s not what you want to communicate, don’t use it.
In fact, you probably don’t want to use this phrase, whether you are willing to work with the other person to find some solution, or not.
If you don’t want to change, then say so directly, and take responsibility for that decision, rather than dump it on the shoulders of the other person.
Make It Better:
· Robbie, I’ve been this way a very long time, actually since we first met. I’m really not planning on changing. Can you accept that?
· I’m not planning on giving up , but maybe we can find some sort of compromise we can both live with?
